What Are We Doing?
Inquiry-Based
NGSS
Students are currently honing their inquiry skills. Many subjects, including algebra, have recently begun to focus on inquiry: the way we study. By completing metacognitive assignments, students are starting to understand their own learning process.
Student-Led
Personal Interest
By choosing a topic that interests them, students are able to cater learning to their personal needs and interests. Even if they are not interested in the day's curriculum, they can spend part of class focusing on research that they connect to.
Career-Enhancing
Applicable Skills
Critical thinking and metacognition are skills that will follow students in any future career they choose to pursue. By participating in Genius Hour, students will learn both technical and abstract skills that scientists use every single day when approaching a problem.
